The Effectiveness of CBD vs Manufactured Painkillers
By now, you’re probably aware that CBD oil carries a number of unique benefits. You’ve probably heard numerous claims about its applications in fitness, stress relief, and in treating certain ailments. The benefits and effects of CBD are indeed numerous, and there’s still much to learn about its capabilities. One highly significant benefit is the effectiveness of CBD in treating pain. For the better part of medical history, pain relief has been limited to manufactured and potentially dangerous drugs. Thanks to the recent rise of research and availability of CBD as a supplement, there is now an all-natural alternative to traditional painkillers.
CBD as an All-Natural Pain Reliever
The use of CBD for all-natural pain relief actually goes back thousands of years. Only recently has medical science taken a serious interest in studying these effects. There are still many questions about the overall benefits and health risks of CBD in general, but recent studies have given us some promising insights into how CBD can be used for treating pain. One study from the Journal of Experimental Medicine found that cannabinoids found in CBD could reduce pain and inflammation as a result of general chronic pain. They also noted that unlike other more common painkillers, patients weren’t likely to develop a tolerance for these effects over time, meaning there would no need to continually increase their dosage. Another study from the European Journal of Pain found that it was also effective in treating arthritis pain in small mammals.
Further study is still needed to determine these effects for certain, but there’s a chance that arthritis sufferers might find relief through CBD. Other sources of pain such as multiple sclerosis, migraines, and digestive pains also show signs of improvement when treated with CBD. The research on cannabinoids is still ongoing, as our understanding of these substances is still in its infancy. However, with studies like these, there’s significant reason to suspect their usefulness across a vast range of health issues, including multiple sources of pain.
As for traditional painkillers, most fall under three categories. These are opioid narcotics, non-narcotic analgesics, and NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs.) While each of these varieties has been proven effective in treating multiple sources of pain, each of them has their side-effects and potential dangers. Narcotic opioids such as morphine and codeine are highly addictive, and may even be fatal if overdosed. Non-narcotic analgesics and NSAIDs, such as acetaminophen and Ibuprofen, are much less addictive and available over the counter. However, these kinds of drugs aren’t quite as effective in treating severe forms of pain and may lead to a variety of unpleasant side effects. Vomiting, constipation, and gastrointestinal problems are just some of the most common problems associated with drugs. The risk of abuse and overdose also still exists, though it’s much less likely than with opioids.
Lower Risk with CBD
All in all, the risk of using CBD to treat pain is much less than with traditional painkillers. Some studies have suggested that CBD can lead to side-effects such as tiredness, diarrhea, and loss of appetite, though a vast majority of users experience no unwanted side-effects whatsoever. In fact, the study goes on to highlight the many benefits of using CBD as opposed to opioids and other forms of pain relief. CBD has the potential to treat the most severe types of pain which have traditionally been treated exclusively by narcotics, putting many people at risk of becoming addicted. CBD oil made from hemp, on the other hand, has no addictive qualities and none of the intoxicating effects as other cannabinoids such as marijuana.
